President Akufo-Addo has commissioned two envoys to represent Ghana in Guinea and Algeria. They are Ambassadors Maxwell Awianga for Conakry while Yaw Bimpong is stationed in Algiers.

The newly sworn in ambassadors are career diplomats, who have served the country in different parts of the world. With more than twenty years of experience, Ambassador Maxwell Awianga’s next station is Guinea.

Conakry had been a close ally of Accra, but the political upheavals in recent times have given cause for concern with the new envoy expected to work harder to improve the ties between the two countries.

Algiers is the new duty post of Ambassador Yaw Bimpong. Accra and Algiers have had cordial relations for decades but there is more to be done in the area of trade and investment.

Expressing gratitude to the President for the honour done to them, Ambassador Awianga pledged to push the government’s agenda of economic diplomacy forward.

President Akufo-Addo tasked the new envoys to promote the interest of the country with special focus on intra-regional trade.

Security at the Sahel is of major concern to Ghana, Guinea and Algeria. And it is expected that the deployment of these envoys will mark a turning point in rekindling the spirit that galvanized support for the liberation struggle in the 60s.
