The Minister of Local Government Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, has inaugurated a 66-member Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), with a call on members to do regular consultations with the Chiefs and the electorate to ensure effective local governance.
Correspondent Thomas Nsowah-Adjei reports that the members were sworn in by Justice Hilda Esther Wryter.
The 66-member Assembly comprises 40 elected government appointees and five Members of Parliament.
Mr Botwe said, ”haphazard development is the cause of frequent flooding in some communities and charged members to work with Chiefs and local authorities to address the challenges.”
The Kumasi Metro Chief Executive, Sam Pyne, asked members to close their ranks and work together to accelerate development.
