The Minority in Parliament says it will write to the Auditor General to audit the accounts of the First lady and wife of the Vice President to ascertain the true total amounts they have received from the state as payment of salaries and allowances since January 2017.

Both ladies have decided to refund all allowances paid them since their husbands assumed office following the public backlash as a result of reports that the presidential commission on emoluments has recommended payments of salaries to them.

The First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has since issued a cheque refunding the money to the state.

At a news conference, Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi said the Auditor General must be interested in finding out the source of the money for the refund.

Mr. Avedzi says the Auditor General must also calculate the interest on the monies paid to the ladies.

The Majority has welcomed the minority’s call for an audit of the accounts of the First Lady.

A member of the majority and MP for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah said the audit must however extend to all former first ladies and wives of former Vice Presidents as well.

He said the former First ladies and wives of former Vice Presidents must also refund all allowances paid them by the state.

He dismissed the distinctions being made by the minority between allowances and salaries.
