The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta region, has commended the ongoing limited voter registration exercise, expressing satisfaction with its current progress despite initial technical challenges.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the party, Mawutor Agbavitor, expressed his approval of the current progress of the ongoing national exercise while hoping for a successful exercise after a tour of some registration centers in the region.

The limited voter registration exercise being undertaken by the Electoral Commission, aims to provide Ghanaians who have attained the voting age of 18 and above the chance to get registered to be able to participate in the upcoming December polls later this year.

The registration exercise, which is in its sixth day, was initially characterised by difficulties, including bad network connections, power outages among others which led to many first-time registrants being unable to register. Despite the initial challenges, a visit to some registration centers indicates that the process has gained momentum.

The tour by the Volta regional leadership of the National Democratic Congress was to observe the ongoing national exercise and also interact with their registration agents. The leadership of the party that embarked on the tour included the Volta regional chairman , Mr. Mawutor Agbavitor, member of Parliament for Adaklu, Kwame Agbodza, Volta Regional Secretary, James Gunu among others.

Registration centers visited included Ho Municipal, Dzolokpuita in Ho West, Golokwati in Afadjato South, Alavanyo Kpeme and Hohoe both in the Hohoe municipality of the region. Others included Anfoega in North Dayi, Kpeve in South Dayi and Kpando in the kpando municipality of the Volta region.

The Volta regional chairman of the NDC Mawutor Agbavitor expressed satisfaction with the ongoing limited voter registration exercise, highlighting improvements made following initial technical challenges.

“We are very determined that we should have a very peaceful exercise in all the constituencies so it is our responsibility to make sure that the agents we have, the individuals that are working, the executives that are working for the party are on course and are doing the right thing,” He said.

He added that “My impression so far is that the exercise is good apart from the rowdy nature that the NPP is exhibiting in Hohoe and creating all sort of problems there, I believe the security personnel are in charge as well. Beyond that every other place is very peaceful and I believe that the exercise is being successful.”
