Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has been officially outdoored as the 2020 running mate to Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.

In her policy statement after being outdoored, Professor Opoku- Agyemang pointed out that her nomination is an act of faith that she takes seriously, pledging to ensure that the voices and concerns of children, the youth, aged and persons with disabilities are reflected in critical decisions.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was named running mate to Mr. Mahama on June 6, amidst varied reactions from the political divide. She has since met with women leaders of the party and appeared on some public platforms with Mr. Mahama.

Her nomination is seen as strategic, taking into consideration the level of expertise and knowledge she brings on board through her positions held in high places.

Her gender also puts her in the limelight. Many believe her selection as running mate will bring a lot to the recognition of women in all aspects of leadership.

Giving her policy statement, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang put forward some policies she believes will propel growth and positively impact on the ordinary Ghanaian. First of all, she together with Mr. Mahama will systematically reform all of the country’s institutions to effectively address the aspirations of the youth.

She spoke of the need for meaningful, quality and comprehensive education that goes beyond access and responds to the future. She also spoke of leveraging on vocational and technical training to equip many with meaningful and fulfilling work.

For now, the ground is set with the outdooring of NDC’s Vice Presidential Candidate, to usher in the launch of the party’s manifesto next month after which vigorous campaigning towards the 2020 election begins.

Meanwhile, former President John Mahama has reiterated the NDC’s position that the selection of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the party’s running mate going into the 2020 general election is the best decision ever.

He said the choice goes beyond the fact that she is a woman and focuses on her competence and intellect.

Speaking at the official outdooring of his running mate in Accra, Mr. Mahama said the NDC has demonstrated its commitment to inclusiveness of women in decision making.

Mr. Mahama catalogued a range of achievements of Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. Key among them is reducing the teacher absenteeism from 27 to 7 per cent as Minister of Education.
