The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its profound disappointment at the excessive force employed by the Police against the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters.

The political party in a release stated, “it is dismayed at the crude tactics exhibited by law enforcement, particularly at a time when the Ghana Police Service is being lauded for its efforts in transforming into a beacon of excellence within the country”.

“This shameful show of brute force runs counter to our collective aspirations for a more peaceful and just society,” lamented Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC. “It is deeply regrettable that the police would resort to violence and suppression as a means to address the issues at hand.”

According to the NDC, in a nation that has celebrated 31 years of democratic progress, such scenes are seen as a stark regression for Ghana’s democracy.

The NDC urges the police force to adopt professional, humane means in handling such situations and calls for the immediate release of the arrested protesters.

The NDC extends its heartfelt empathy to the protesters who have been injured and detained. Furthermore, they call upon all progressive forces to unite with the NDC in providing legal and other forms of support for those who have suffered at the hands of the police.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of upholding the principles of democracy and respecting human rights and to ensure that such egregious violations do not go unchecked.
