The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has indicated that the ambulances procured by the government under the One Constituency One ambulance project will be distributed on January 6, 2020.
The ambulances, which he said has a five-year lifespan, will be fitted with tracking devices linked to a control centre to monitor their activities as part of measures to ensure that they go beyond the given lifespan.
The Vice President said this at the grand durbar of the 20th Anniversary of Enstoolment of Dormaahene and Dormaahemaa. The event also doubled as the climax of the 2019 Kwafie Festival in Dormaa Ahenkro.
The durbar to climax the colourful 20th Anniversary of enstoolment of Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu and Dormaahehaa, Odeneho Akosua Fima and the Kwafie Festival of the people of Dormaa attracted traditional rulers from the 16 regions of Ghana and Cote d’ivoire among others.
Also in attendance were some past and present government appointees including the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia; formal president John Dramani Mahama; IGP, James Oppong Buanu; GFA president, Kurt Okraku and the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo. The culture of Dormaa and other regions was on full display with varieties of Kente on parade. It was on the theme, ’20 Years of Stewardship: Development through Culture’.
Addressing the occasion, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu urged Traditional rulers to solve land dispute with dispatch and to use the power they wield to develop the land they rule and also use their positions to collaborate with the government to develop the socio-economic potential of their areas.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu bemoaned the indiscriminate sale of lands by chiefs for their own good and explained that lands were to be held “in trust for the people”.
He promised to establish a school in the name of one of the founding fathers and heroes of Dormaa, Nana Dei-Kusi. Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu called on corporate bodies to invest in Dormaa.
The Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, for his part called on traditional rulers to learn from Osaagyefo by solving all chieftaincy and land disputes. The Vice-President said although the government encountered some problems when it took over power, it had been able to make some progress.
He stated that through the implementation of the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs Programme’, the agriculture sector had seen a transformation, stressing that, “today, Ghana is not importing maize. We are producing more rice and we are urging people to eat more local rice. We are building warehouses to store our excess harvest and this is making agricultural growth to turnaround remarkably.”
He said the ambulance procured by the government under the One Constituency One ambulance policy will be dispatched to various districts and constituencies on January 6, 2020.
Outlining some government achievements, Dr Bawumia said that agreement with Cote d’Ivoire for the setting up of a floor price for the sale of cocoa beans would see a major increase for a bag of cocoa from October 1, 2020.
Earlier in his address, the Paramount chief of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Ekumfi Ameyaw, who was the chairman of the occasion called on traditional rulers in the three Regions in the former Bono-Ahafo region not to let the division of the region separate them.
He urged sons and daughters of Dormaa who are outside the region and the country to take advantage of government policies to better the lot of their people. Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu had been working on Doctorate in Philosophy of law from the University of Oles Hontcher in Ukraine. As part of the ceremony his certificate was presented to him.
