Chairman of the Council of Elders of the governing New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Hackman Owusu Agyemang has waded into the ongoing discussion and conversations surrounding the party ahead of its November 4, 2023 presidential primaries saying selfish interests of party members are contributing to division.

In an opening address ahead of the Council of Elders meeting in Accra, the former statesman expressed that party members have allowed personal interests to overshadow the deepened ideologies and goals of the party.

He said some utterances and display of gross disregard for themselves ahead of the election is contributing gravely to a decline in the party’s mutual goal and might eventually break them down.

“I see a party which may be weaker by our attitude, our utterances and our disrespect for each other as well as our lack of discipline. I see a party sometimes with disputes and difficulties and acrimony. I see a party where members are refusing to work together for a common goal. We have allowed our selfish interests to override the common goal,” he said.

The former New Juaben North Member of Parliament stressed the need for party members to overlook their individual or group interests and project the bigger picture of the party and collaborate to achieve their position of breaking the eight.

He also reminded them of the shared values of the elephant party and asked that they get guided along such virtues and values in order to achieve the common and shared objectives.
