The national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has temporarily put on hold its parliamentary primaries scheduled to take place on January 27, 2024, in the Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti region.

The decision to put the parliamentary primary on hold comes as a result of an interlocutory injunction filed by one of the aspirants, Mr. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, who doubles as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore-Mampong.

Mr. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam served as a Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaeso Constituency during the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

The announcement to put the Nhyiaeso Constituency primaries on hold was made after the NPP National Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

The party also affirmed the disqualifications of two aspirants in the Bimbilla and Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituencies, leaving the Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, and Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan to go unopposed.

Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan is also running unopposed in Ayawaso West-Wuogon after the party’s former constituency youth organiser, Owusu Amankwah, had his appeal rejected.
