The New Patriotic Party (NPP), went to the polls over the weekend on November 4, 2023, to choose their flagbearer, and after what seemed like a peaceful exercise, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emerged victorious.
Events after the election have become a major topic of discussion across the length and breadth of political enthusiasts and analysts, with some looking at what will become the next move the party will be embarking on.
In an interview on GTV’s Talking Point, the Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, disclosed that unity was a highly prioritised currency within the structure of the party, and that’s what resulted in such an enviable exercise.
Mr. Ahiagbah stressed that unity is a process in the party. He mentioned that the recent election is a big proof that the NPP is still united and will continue to grow strong.
“After a competitive election, all the candidates came to the same understanding, and that’s a big statement of unity,” he said.
He also disclosed how the showdown champion, Kennedy Agyapong, rightfully accepted the result without any allegations or controversies. He said what could have brought disunity would have been if the candidates disagreed with the outcome.
On the back of why the candidates were made to sign the memorandum before the election, the Communication Director said it was a necessary action for the candidates in order to avert any form of disagreement or controversies that may arise after the election results are declared.
He further acknowledged the qualities of both Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Hon. Kennedy Agyapong for the tough competition they gave this NPP election.
