The Parliament of Ghana is set to host the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family and Sovereignty from June 3 to June 6, 2026, at the Accra Ridge Church in Accra.
The high-level continental conference is expected to bring together lawmakers, policy experts, academics, civil society leaders and development partners from across Africa and beyond to deliberate on key issues affecting African societies, as well as the role of parliaments in shaping responsive policies.
The conference will be held under the theme: “Consolidating parliamentary consensus: advancing the African Charter on family values and sovereignty.”
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, discussions will focus on African cultural identity, family resilience, food sovereignty, data governance, technological transformation and youth development in an increasingly digital world.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour, a move Parliament says reflects Ghana’s commitment to democratic cooperation and policy dialogue on the continent.
Key plenary sessions are expected to examine the impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on family systems, child protection and social cohesion. Delegates will also discuss ethical frameworks, data privacy protections and responsible digital governance across Africa.
The conference will further explore food security and agricultural sovereignty, with participants expected to deliberate on strengthening resilient local food systems to support Africa’s long-term development and independence.
Another major focus will be the preservation of African cultural values and indigenous knowledge systems in the face of globalisation and rapidly evolving technological trends.
Participants are also expected to discuss strategies to strengthen family institutions, promote values-based education and empower young people to contribute meaningfully to national development while remaining grounded in African cultural heritage.
The conference will additionally provide a platform for African legislators to deepen collaboration on governance, public policy and continental integration, while reaffirming the role of parliaments in safeguarding the dignity and sovereignty of African peoples.
Parliament says Ghana remains committed to promoting constructive dialogue, democratic cooperation and innovative policy solutions aimed at advancing peace, stability and sustainable development across the continent.
Further details on participation, speakers and conference activities are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
