President Akufo-Addo has appointed the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, to act as a Caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Madam Koomson, who is also a member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, will be in that position until a substantive replacement is made.
This comes after President Akufo-Addo accepted the resignation of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who tendered his resignation on January 10.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto is the second after Alan Kyeremateng, who was Minister of Trade and Industry, to resign from the government to pursue their political ambition.
In a statement issued and signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto for his services to the government and to the nation.
He wished him the best of luck in his future endeavours.
