The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has begun processes to ensure that all Constitutional and Administrative hurdles are resolved for the country to successfully conduct next year’s Referendum.
The Referendum which is scheduled for September 2019 will give Ghanaians the opportunity to decide on whether to elect MMDCEs or maintain the status quo where the President appoints them.
A Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, O. B. Amoah said the task ahead is huge and collective effort by all stakeholders is required for a fruitful Referendum.
Mr. Amoah was speaking at the launch of a document titled “The Case for Multiparty Local Governance In Ghana” produced by the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG).
