The Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has apologized to Members of Parliament (MPs) for not engaging them on the new Chamber project before going public.

His apology followed public outcry over Parliament’s decision to construct a new 450-seater chamber.

Some MPs have described it as unnecessary and a misplaced priority.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu told Journalists that MPs ought to have been informed prior to the announcement to the public.

He  said the Chamber is to have space to accommodate visiting MPs and other dignitaries, including non MPs. There would also be space for the swearing in of newly elected Presidents, other than the Black Star Square.

The Majority Leader said the decision to construct the new Chamber, was taken by the Parliamentary Service Board and not the executive.
