The Electoral Commission (EC) voter exhibition exercise ends Friday, September 20.
The Commission last week extended the period for the exhibition. The exercise, which was originally scheduled for September 10 to 17, was to enable all registered voters from 2010 to 2019 to crosscheck their particulars in the Register.
Registered voters are expected to provide information to help expunge the names of the dead as well as unqualified persons from the Voters Register.
There have been reports of low patronage of the exercise at some centres.
This has been attributed to the EC’s failure to do enough broadcast and publicity on the exercise.
Meanwhile, the EC has refuted allegations that it provided the NPP with a provisional Voters Register before the exhibition of the register.
The NDC has sued the EC following allegations that it gave a provisional Register to the NPP but refused to do same for the party before the start of the Voter Exhibition exercise.
Speaking on GBC’s current affairs programme, ‘Behind the News’, Director of Elections at the EC, Dr. Siriboe Quaicoo said the EC has not provided any political party with a provisional copy of the Voters Register.
In a related development, the General -Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has bemoaned the silence of the NPP on the matter.
According to him, NPP’s deliberate silence on the several anomalies in the Limited Voter Registration Exercise and the ongoing Voter Exhibition means those anomalies do not affect their interest.
