A cross section of traders and galamsey operators at Kyebi in the Eastern Region has expressed excitement about the lifting of the ban on small scale mining activities popularly known as “galamsey” by government.
Some of them commended the government for the move since they believe it will bring great improvement in their businesses while others pleaded with the government to ensure that measures put in place to regulate activities of small scale mining operators are strictly enforced to prevent destruction of water bodies and the environment.
They intimated that, the lifting of the ban will help the youth gain employment in the town and reduce crime.
They expressed this excitement when GBC’s news team visited the town after the ban was lifted by the government.
