The Eastern Regional Director of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Jude Aduamoah-Addo has revealed that the Commission has held over 29 public engagements for the first quarter of this year.

The engagements are aimed at finding out challenges faced by consumers as well as educating them on their rights and responsibilities. This, he noted, is in line with the Commission’s declaration of 2023 as the year of operational efficiency to ensure balance between quality of service delivery and revenue recovery.

Mr. Aduamoah-Addo who was speaking in an interview with GBC Correspondent in Koforidua, said it is also aimed at helping both service providers and consumers keep their sides of the contract between them. Mr Aduamoah-Addo hinted that his outfit also undertook community and industrial monitoring to ensure standards of performance in service reliability, customer care, notification of maintenance exercises, bill delivery and prepaid networks. He gave further details on the scores of the performance.

He mentioned communities, radio discussions, District Assemblies, Associations, schools and religious organizations as some of the institutions PURC engages. He added that they intend to increase their engagement and also create WhatsApp platforms for unique groups to be able to reach out to more people and deepen stakeholder confidence. Mr. Aduamoah-Addo called on the GWCL to monitor public standpipes, especially those at market place.

He urged service providers to constantly improve on their service and customer care delivery as well as give timely notifications to customers.
