Residents around Kpone near Tema are still battling with smoke a week after a fire outbreak at the Kpone Landfill site.

Chairman of the Kpone Waste Pickers Association, Jerry Johnson Doe in an interview with GBC’s Abraham Donkor, said nothing can be done to quench the fire.

He said although the Ghana National Fire Service is finding it difficult to bring the fire under control, they will still be needed to ensure that the fire does not spread to surrounding communities.

Mr. Doe said the smoke is severely affecting the health of the people.

He said some residents are moving to the old dump site, while others who have nowhere to go, remain at the Landfill site.

Mr. Doe said they are hopeful government will come to their aid, especially concerning their health.
