About one hundred and twenty houses in the Saboba district of the Northern Region were ripped off following a rainstorm in the area.

More than seven hundred people are affected and some of them are now putting up with their neighbours.

The District Chief Executive for Saboba, George Bingrini, in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana disclosed that, victims of the storm need urgent support to reroof their buildings and bring their lives generally back to normalcy.

“The district NADMO office has collected data on the victims and their needs and this will be forwarded to the regional level for support. As an assembly, we are also looking at how we can support the victims,” he said

Saboba shares a common border with Togo and until the outbreak of covid-19, there was exchange of goods and services among communities on both sides of the border. The DCE revealed that, the closure of borders has affected trade in the area. He also spoke about measures put in place to police the numerous unapproved routes in the area.

“Our people used to go to the nearby district (in Togo) called Kuka to trade, but right now the borders are closed, we have returned some people from Togo and prevented Ghanaians who were trying to cross into Togo, they are not able to attend the Sunday market,” he revealed.

The DCE further revealed that, the assembly is collaborating with chiefs and opinion leaders in the area, to enforce the suspension of social and religious gatherings and appealed to residents to cooperate
