President John Mahama delivered his State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Ghana’s Parliament on Friday, February 27, 2026, tackling the nation’s economic woes head-on.

Speaking amid ongoing recovery efforts since his administration took power in January 2025, Mahama painted a picture of a country emerging from the brink, vowing to deliver relief to citizens battered by years of mismanagement.

“Our citizens [are] reeling from an unimaginable hardship caused by years of general imprudence and reckless management of the economy,” Mahama stated candidly.

He reiterated his early warnings that the path to recovery would be arduous, but affirmed his unyielding commitment: “I was clear from the outset that recovery would not come easily. But I was also clear that I would stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians.”

Reflecting on promises made in last year’s address, the President highlighted tough decisions taken to restore stability.

“I promised then that just as we have confronted and overcome crises in the past, I would reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress and development,” he said.

Addressing the Speaker and lawmakers directly, Mahama declared with confidence: “Today, I can say to you… Ghana is back.”

The tone shifted to optimism as Mahama emphasized tangible progress.

“Ghana is working again. And Ghana is looking for business. The fundamentals are improving,” he affirmed.
