The Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has pointed fingers at the Ghana Cycling Federation for the challenges encountered by athletes due to inadequate equipment during the 13th African Games.

This revelation follows numerous complaints from athletes regarding insufficient training gear and equipment.

Ghana is hosting the African Games for the first time, with the event scheduled from March 8 to March 23. However, the initial days of the competition have been marred by issues surrounding kitting, equipment, and logistical arrangements.

Addressing these concerns at a press conference held at the University of Ghana Stadium, the Sports Minister highlighted the Ghana Cycling Federation’s role in the matter, citing their failure to provide updated equipment for cyclists participating in the competition.

“We requested all sporting federations to submit their requirements for the competition. If you are the Cycling Federation and you knew that fibre bicycles were necessary instead of aluminum ones, it was your duty to communicate your needs to us,” stated the minister.

He further emphasized, “If we cannot fulfill all requests, we are willing to procure the necessary equipment. However, it is essential for federations to ensure they submit accurate lists to facilitate the process.”
