Tanker drivers strike: Petroleum products shortage likely in 24 hours – COPEC

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC) has hinted of imminent fuel and petroleum products shortage by close of today, if striking tanker drivers do not rescind their action.

The Tanker Drivers’ Association of Ghana this week embarked on a nationwide strike demanding that deplorable roads leading to and from their depots all across the country, especially roads in the Tema-Kpone enclave be fixed.

Executive Secretary of COPEC Ghana, Duncan Amoah in an interview with the GNA, said the development could lead to long queues at fuel and LPG stations.

Mr. Amoah urged the government to listen to their concerns and make the roads motorable.

Communications Manager of the National Petroleum Authority, Mohammed Kudus

Meanwhile, Communications Manager, National Petroleum Authority, Mohammed Kudus, says the Authority has had engagements with the Association and fuel service providers to ensure the issue is resolved.

He said the authority is mobilizing funds on its own to ensure work starts on the road in earnest to avert fuel shortages.

Some experts have suggested that the Department of Urban Roads under the auspices of the Tema Municipal Assembly should intervene regarding the request to work on the roads as requested by the Tanker Drivers in Tema.
