The Lawra Senior School (LAWSEC) has received a donation towards the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) competition. The donation was made by USA chapter of Lawra Old Students Association (LASSOSA).
The items presented were five laptop computers and three sets of books.
In this write-up, GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo says an old student on the Governing Board of LAWSEC, Thomas Wienaa Tingan, who represented the National President of LASSOSA, Stanley ELedi, at the presentation ceremony, said the support to the School was a response to an appeal made to the old students.
Mr. Tingan announced that LASSOSA will closely monitor the usage of the package presented as well as the performance of LAWSEC in the NSMQ competition. He was hopeful that the support would motivate the students to up their game in relation to their academic work.
Mr Tingan entreated other public-spirited individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the school, which has over 1850 students on its roll. The Headmaster of LAWSEC, Seidu Tungbani, who took delivery of the package, expressed appreciation to the benefactors for reaching out to the School.
He indicated that the gesture from LASSOSA will help to enhance the school’s participation in the NSMQ competition at the national level. Mr Tungbani stressed that LASSOSA has been very supportive of LAWSEC, noting that when the roof of the girls’ dormitory was ripped off, the Old students gave the school 100 pieces of mattress.
The Headmaster added that LASSOSA had also supported the school with street lamps valued at GH¢ 8,600.00. Mr Tungbani pointed out that LAWSEC still has a number of challenges, ranging from an additional dining hall, submersible water pumps to an ICT centre.
The Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede Ziedeng, who was invited by LASSOSA to the function, also used the occasion to present 20 street lamps to the school.
