Four people who were shot and wounded by the police during a demonstration Tuesday morning at Yayaso in the Abirem North District of the Eastern Region are receiving treatment at the hospital.
The about one thousand land-owners were demonstrating against Newmont Ghana which they claim has failed to comply with an agreement on compensation.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, an opinion leader at Yayaso, Kwabena Frimpong, said although the matter is in court, they decided to demonstrate because the legal process is slow.
More-so, the demonstration is not illegal.
He indicated that the Police were duly notified before embarking on the demonstration.
