The Minister of Youth and Sports, the Honourable Mustapha Ussif, recently undertook a momentous initiative by presenting a substantial cheque amounting to GHC1,000,000 (One Million Ghana Cedis) to the esteemed Medeama SC on behalf of President Akufo-Addo.
This financial contribution, a manifestation of the President’s commitment, was initially promised to the Tarkwa-based club in recognition of their remarkable triumph in the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League.
The culmination of Medeama SC’s success in clinching the league title secured them the coveted opportunity to represent Ghana on the international stage in the Caf Total Energies Champions League.
In a notable ceremony held in the capital city, Accra, this generous gesture was formalised, witnessed by key figures in the realm of sports, including the Deputy Minister of Sports, the Honourable Evans Bobbie Ansah, and the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker.
The latter graciously attended the event and assumed the responsibility of receiving the substantial cheque on behalf of the club.
Medeama SC, renowned for their distinctive Mauve and Yellow colours, currently find themselves in a commendable position, occupying the second spot in Group D.
Their journey in the Caf Champions League group stage has seen them amass a total of 4 points, with a noteworthy sequence of events, commencing with a challenging opening encounter against Al Ahly in Cairo, followed by a triumphant performance against CR Belouizdad on home turf, and a hard-fought draw against Young Africans in a subsequent match.
