The Desert Foxes of Algeria beat the Elephants of Cote D’voire 4-3 on penalties to qualify for the semi-finals in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Algerians shot into the lead through Sofiane Feghouli in the first half but the Ivorians came back strongly in the second half and equalised through Jonathan Kodjia.

On the 46th minute, the Ivorian goal keeper, brought down Algeria’s Baghad Bounedjah in the ’18’ yard box and was immediately shown the yellow card. The resultant penalty was kicked over the crossbar by Bounedjah.

The Algerians nearly increased their goal tally to two but the goal bound shot was cleared before it could cross the goal line after the goalkeeper had been completely beating.

The ding-dong encounter continued with each side probing for the winner but to no avail to end the full 90 minutes at one-one.

The 30 minutes extra time also produced no goal so the winner had to be decided on penalties. The Desert Foxes scored four of their kicks as against three by the Elephants.
