Ghanaian and African football great Asamoah Gyan has been appointed as Ambassador for CAF in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Côte d’Ivoire.

Asamoah Gyan will be paired alongside some football legends like Augustine Jay-Jay’ Okocha, Ahmed Hassan, and El Hadji Diouf in this ambassadorial role programme.

The CAF Ambassador programme comes with some responsibility for promoting African football, improving the quality of all CAF tournaments, supporting charity initiatives, and projecting the culture of football in Africa.

Asamoah Gyan, who has been a global star at both CAF and FIFA tournaments, merits this great opportunity as he has been a formidable competitor when it comes to his impact with the Ghanaian national team. “Baby Jet” in the 2010 World Cup brought the World closer to Africa as he led Ghana to the quarterfinals.

The Black Stars top scorer also featured in seven Africa Cup of Nations, reaching the final in 2010 and 2015. Gyan holds the record as the top African player in the World Cup with six goal

The Ambassador programme connecting with legendary players will open an avenue for CAF to engage with fans through the African football greats in order to promote football on the continent to another level.
