Ghana’s Football Association technical team led by Technical Director Bernhard Lippert and coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor were at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday to watch the derby between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics.

The match which grabbed the headlines all week lived up to expectations but it was Great Olympics playmaker Gladson Awako who caught the attention of the coach.

Akonnor has been scouting the former T.P Mezembe player for a while now, having attended Great Olympics’ training and watched some of their games.

Awako has taken the Ghana Premier League by storm since returning to the topflight, winning four man of the match awards and player of the month for December.

On Saturday, he set the mark with a spectacular free kick as the Blue and White side of Accra defeated their archrivals Hearts of Oak.

Not only did he score, but he also bossed the midfield outplaying the likes of Emmanuel Nettey and Abdul Aziz Nurudeen.

Minutes after scoring the opener, Maxwell Abbey connected home a cross from his brother Samuel Ashie Quaye to seal victory for the Dade Boys.

COach Akonnor has shown keen interest in the Ghana Premier League, watch most of the games and handing call ups to some local contingent.

The next international assignment is in March.
