Prayers pour in for Christian Atsu, Turkey and Syria as earthquake claims more lives

Following reports of the quake that occurred in Syria and Turkey on February 6 2023, a total of over 1000 people were confirmed and over 500 injured and trapped.

Among the trapped ones is Ghanaian International Football Star who now plays in the Turkish league for Hatayspor, Christian Atsu.

Reports indicated that he was among some players and individuals trapped in the rubble and scores of Ghanaians, politicians and football Associations took to their official pages on social media to share in the sad news and join the world in praying and hoping for the former Newcastle and Chelsea Star to be rescued.

Lawmaker and member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency, in the Volta Region of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa shared prayers on his official twitter account when the news broke.

“This is a monumental tragedy to our common humanity and not just the people of Turkey and Syria where over 2,600 have so far been killed by a devastating earthquake. Our fervent prayers are with our very own Christian Atsu and all those trapped. May God deliver a MIRACLE”, he tweeted.

Former Trades and Industry Minister, now Flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyerematen also took to his official twitter handle to join in concerns and say a word of prayer for the affected families. He expressed hope that Christian Atsu would be rescued.

My prayers are with Ghanaian International player,@ChristianAtsu20, reportedly among victims trapped in the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria. I wait in great hope for the safe recovery of all still unaccounted for & commiserate with all affected by the disaster”, he also tweeted.

The governing body for Ghanaian football, the Ghana Football Association also joined in prayers with Ghanaians and sports lovers across the globe to share concerns and prayers with people of Turkey and Syria and particularly Christian Atsu on their official twitter handle. According to their tweet on February 7, 2023, it indicates that there is some good news on the Ghanaian Star.

“We’ve received some positive news that Christian Atsu has been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building and is receiving treatment. Let’s continue to pray for Christian”, they tweeted

Though reports coming in signifies that some progress have been made with regards to rescue, Ghanaians hope and pray Christian Atsu will be safe and healthy to be back on the field to do what he does best.
