The Accra derby of the Ghana premier league between Accra Great Olympics vs Accra Hearts of Oak ended in a draw at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday, June 6.

With almost 30,000 supporters encouraging the players, the game got off to a fiery start with tackles flying in from all over the field.

Both team had numerous chances to opening the scoring.

In the 23rd minute, Isaac Mensah’s long-range effort landed beneath the crossbar, prompting Referee Rustin Gameli to wave play on despite the Hearts players’ protests.

There were no goals in the first half.

Emmanuel Nettey  of Accra Hearts of Oak gave Hearts the lead in the 50th minute with a well-hit shot from 25 yards that had the crowd chanting.

In the 54th minute, Hearts could have doubled their scoring but Isaac Mensah missed a golden chance  from close range.

But Olympics kept their composure even though when their first choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was subbed off due to injury levelled the score with a vicious header from close range in the 71st minute, Maxwell Abbey restored parity.

Substitute Abdul Manaf Mudasiru ran like a stallion to take a ball from Hearts goalkeeper Attah’s foot and round him up in added time, but the hefty striker lacked the poise to put it home for the game winner.
