Kumasi Asante Kotoko took on Nsoatreman in the J.A. Kufour Cup on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, with the match ending at 2:1 in favour of Kotoko.

The match began in some fashion with Nsoatreman taking the early lead with a goal from Abdul Rahman in the first half, leaving Kotoko with some work to do in order to get an equaliser.

The match along the line had some interesting moments as both teams surprisingly had their jersey colours clashing, which led to the match being halted for Kotoko to put on a different colour of jersey.

The second half saw some urgency from the porcupine warriors as they came into the game with a much more determined effort to get an equaliser. With all efforts blazing on their side, they finally equalised in the 57th minute with a goal from Steven Mukwala.

Kotoko were suddenly placed on the hot line as they handed Nsoatreman a path to go ahead again with a penalty, but Nsoatreman failed to capitalise on that, with goalkeeper Frederick Asare denying Manaf Umar’s effort.

10 minutes after their equaliser, Kotoko added a second goal from Peter Amidu, who made use of a well-placed pass from Richmond Lamptey to make it 2:1 for the Porcupine Warriors.

The JA Kufuor Cup was organised in honour of the former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, who served the nation with desire and dedication.
