Legon Cities Football Club has expressed their desire to adopt the newly built University of Ghana Sports Stadium as their home venue for the Ghana Premier League.

The 10000 capacity facility was completed to host the 2023 Africa Games currently underway in Accra and is expected to serve the University community following government’s decision to handover the edifice to the school.

With maintenance of sporting infrastructure coming under huge scrutiny in the country, some have raised concerns of the stadium being underutilised after the 2-week sporting event.

However, the General Manager of Legon Cities, Kwabena Asenso has revealed their plans to officially request for the usage of the stadium for their home games when the games end.

“A lot of people have told us to consider the place. It will be a best place for us with the name and the position of the club. It will be easy to tie the name of the club to the facility”.

According to him, the decision has been thought through and discussions are underway to see if after the African games, their request will be granted.

“It’s has been a decision we have pondered over and we are waiting to push through after the Accra Games. We just hope our request is considered”.

The Accra Sports Stadium has been under massive pressure hosting four premier league clubs and the relocation of some of these teams to the Legon Stadium is anticipated to generate massive relief to some of these clubs.
