Local organizing committee for Upper East inter-regional sports festival launched

A 24-member Local Organizing Committee for the Inter-Regional Sports Festival has been inaugurated in the Upper East Region.

The Committee will have over sight responsibility of all sub-committees to be set up to organize the festival, slated for August/September this year in Bolgantanga.

The members are from second cycle institutions and some heads of departments in the Region.

The Chairman of the Committee and Regional Director of the Upper East Co-ordinating Council, Alhaji Mahamadu Azonko said since the inception of the Inter-Regional Sports Festival in 1989, it has become a very important and popular programme on the educational calendar, aimed at unearthing talents to support the national teams at major events in the various disciplines.

He indicated that, the sports festival has been hosted in turns by the various regions and was happy that, it was the turn of the Upper East Region to host the event.

Alhaji Azonko charged the committee to ensure that the festival becomes successful.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, the Chairman, Schools and Colleges Sports Federation and Headmaster of the Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIGBOSS), Afelibik Ababu said as hosts of this year’s national festival all efforts are being made to make it a success.

He advised members of the committee to work together and allow free flow of relevant information. He was optimistic that with sincerity and team work the Upper East Region will emerge victorious.
