The Chiefs and some eminent people in Obuasi are to meet AngloGold Ashanti over the match-fixing allegations levelled against Ashantigold SC and their demotion to Division 2.

The meeting is to urge the mining Company to take back ownership of Ghana’s third most successful club. It is also to deliberate on the disciplinary action taken against the club by the GFA for match-fixing.

Speaking to Maltiti Sayida Sadick on GTV Breakfast show, GBC’s Ashanti Regional correspondent Nicholas Osei Owusu, said, the residents of Obuasi have always had their reservations about the takeover of the club from the mining company.

He indicated that the police have advised that the game between Ashantigold and Asante Kotoko be postponed because they anticipate reprisal attacks in lieu of Ashanti Gold’s match-fixing and demotion brouhaha.

This comes after the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Disciplinary Committee demoted the club to division two and slapped a ten-year and eight-year ban on the President of the Sporting Club Dr. Kwaku Frimpong and his son Emmanuel Frimpong respectively for their involvement in the match-fixing issue.

Dr. Frimpong is expected to pay a fine of GHC100,000 while his son was hit with a GHC50,000 fine.
