The Deputy Director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Francisca Atuluk lauded efforts by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF for organizing sports activities for people with disability.

Speaking during the Unified Football for Inclusion Tournament for persons with disabilities organized by UNICEF at Akropong in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region in order to mark this year’s World Children’s Day, Madam Atuluk noted that the Sports Ministry is working hard to ensure inclusion and non-discrimination at all sporting activities and other programmes.

The Youth Advocate for Ghana Federation for People with Disability, Nina Okoro Afor noted that society has discriminated and stigmatized against them and prevented them from realizing their potentials to support national development.

She was grateful to UNICEF and other organizations for coming to their aid.

The Director of Pre-Tertiary Education at the Education Ministry, Nana Baffour Awuah noted that, for the past few years, he has prioritized inclusive education in order for persons with disability to have access to education.

The World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20th November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide and improved child welfare.

The celebration of the day was rescheduled to the 13th of October this year as a result of the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Special schools from Koforidua, Wa, Secondi Takoradi, Mampong and Akropong participated in the celebration.
