The former midfielder of Asante Kotoko, Ernest Papa Arko, passed away in the early hours of Sunday after a short illness.

He was the captain in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The legendary midfielder played a key role in Asante Kotoko’s history.

Ernest Papa Arko represented the Black Stars of Ghana by participating in two (2) Cup of Nations tournaments.

He also led Kotoko to victory in the 1983 CAF Champions League and was a member of the team that placed second in the 1982 Africa Cup of Champions Clubs and was defeated by Al Ahly of Egypt.

Papa Arko’s name is elevated among the club’s legends for his good leadership and contributions to the club.

He happens to be the third person to pass away in Kotoko’s club after the sudden deaths of Joe Debrah and Robert Eshun.
