Football fans across the world and Ghana were expected to bid farewell to the late Raphael Dwamena, a former striker for the Ghana Black Stars, on February 16, 2024, but an unforeseen incident occurred, forcing the funeral to be moved to Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Following a controversial first funeral service held on Friday, February 16, high-profile figures in the sports world attended, including some officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Sister of the late Raphael Dwamena, Yvonne Dwamena, disclosed the second funeral date on Onua TV during an interview with Captain Smart.

She explained that the family will have a separate funeral service on Saturday from the one organised by the GFA.

She mentioned that the decision came up due to some dispute between the wife and family of the deceased over the provision of the shroud for the corpse. The decision to provide a shroud for the deceased was halted by the deceased family, which claimed that the wife and her family had no right to provide a shroud for the corpse.

Raphael Dwamena tragically died on Saturday, November 11, 2023, during a league match in Albania while playing for Egnatia, which saw him collapse on the football pitch. Dwamena collapsed in the 24th minute after suffering a heart attack.

The 28-year-old couldn’t survive, despite all attempts to save him from dying. He was rushed to the Kavaja Hospital for immediate attention, but that wasn’t enough to keep him alive.
