The Black Stars of Ghana on Monday, January, 1st first announced its 27-man squad to represent Ghana at the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The yarns of football fans were settled when Chris Hughton gave out his preferred 27-man squad to work it.

Some players opted out even before the squad was set to be announced due to some late recovery from injury and personal club expectations. Fatawu Ishaku, Thomas Partey and Baba Rahman were the notable players who opted out from the team.

With the midfield missing some key players like Thomas Partey, Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey grabs the opportunity to replace the vice-captain of the Black Stars. Richmond Lamptey joins notable local players like Jonathan Sowah and Abdul Fatawu Hamid, who are both not new to the Black Stars.

Captain Dede Ayew will be leading the team in another major tournament after taking leadership role in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Alongside Dede Ayew will be his brother Jordan Ayew and the nation’s poster boy, Mohammed kudus.

The Black Stars will start preparations on Tuesday, 2nd January 2024 in the Garden City of Kumasi. The preparation will be climaxed with a friendly match against the Brave Warriors of Namibia on 8th January 2024 before traveling to Côte d’Ivoire for the AFCON 2023.
