Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey has completed all the processes of switching nationality with football’s world governing body (Fifa) to play for Ghana at the senior level.
The London-born defender, 21, disclosed this on Twitter and expressed his appreciation to everyone involved.
“I’m happy that everything is completed with FIFA and I’m able to play for Ghana. I thank God for giving me this opportunity, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in making this happen,” he posted on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

The youngster, who has played for England Under-18s and Under-19s, thanked the country of his birth. He also expressed excitement at the prospect of switching nationality from England to Ghana.

The former Chelsea full-back started 16 times for Brighton in the Premier League in the 2021-22 season and made a further 14 appearances as a substitute.
Lamptey was born in London but has Ghanaian roots. He recently turned down an invite to England’s U-21 team following his decision to represent Ghana.
Following Ghana’s qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, six players, including Tariq Lamptey, switched nationalities to play for Ghana.
They are Inaki Williams, Mohammed Salisu, Stephan Ambrosius, Patrick Pfeffer, and Ransford Yeboah.
Ghana are in World Cup Group H with Uruguay, Portugal, and South Korea.
The Black Stars will begin their World Cup campaign against Portugal on November 24, followed by South Korea on November 28. They will wrap up their group stage games against Uruguay on December 2 at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakra.
