The University of Ghana Sports Stadium was the standout venue for the athletic event highlight of the just-ended 13th Africa Games held in Ghana. The Sports Stadium created an epic atmosphere as prominent athletes graced the events as they ran the race to make a name for themselves while others set their own personal best records and national records.
As it stands, the maintenance level is what has been on the lips of Ghanaians after the African Games came to a close in March.
The facility had its negative side, although much attention was centred on the positives during the games. The pitch wasn’t looking as appealing to the eyes of Ghanaians, with the majority of its portion displaying the colour brown and not the actual green colour of grass expected.
With these concerning matters being thrown at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority, they have immediately taken the necessary measures to embark on the task of maintaining the stadium to its top-notch quality, as work has started to keep the pitch in its proper shape and condition to fit the current standard of top notch pitches in the world.
Green Grass Technology, a professional pitch expert company led by Mr. Frank Boahen, has made a significant change to the University of Ghana pitch with their dedicated time and effort put into changing the look of the pitch to a more appealing one as compared to how it looked during the African Games.
Credit should be given to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority, and the Ghana Football Association for taking it upon themselves to maintain the stadiums and regularly keep them in good shape.
The stadium, which has served a lot of athletes, coaches, and industry personnel, could attest to the fact that the quality of the stadium helped them excel at the Games. With all these achievements being chalked, one would say let’s come together to ensure that the stadium’s standard will be maintained and that it will not be the same old story of it being let to deteriorate.
The stadium has by far served its purpose of successfully hosting the 13th African Games, as all eyes will be on the WAFU Zone B under-17 boys competition and the 2024 MTN FA Cup Final to exhibit similar euphoria as the Africa Games.
