The Copper Queens of Zambia shot their way to the semi-finals of Morocco 2022 after a dramatic penalty shootout. The Copper Queens drew 1-1 apiece with the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal.
Ndiaye broke the deadlock for Senegal in the 61st minute which was followed by a Chitundu reply in the 70th minute taking the game to a penalty shootout. Chanda Zulu Ireen Lungu Nali converted while Mweemba’s was saved.
Likewise, Korka Falls and Diakhate spot kicks were saved to aid Zambia book both a semi-final berth and a place in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
This implied that Senegal have been booted out of the 2022 Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. They, however, have a chance to book an intercontinental playoff ticket in their next match.
In the other quarter-final match, Morocco beat debutants Botswana 2-1 to qualify for their first Women’s World Cup.
