Cyber Security Center warns youth against publishing pornographic materials

The National Cyber Security Center has warned the youth against creating and publishing pornographic materials,  saying it is criminal.

The Center says,  sharing pornography on social media is also criminal and offenders are liable for prosecution.

Addressing students of the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale,  the Emergency Response Team Lead,  for the center,  Audrey Wereko advised the students to report to the center any form of cyber abuse.

The National Cyber Security Center, (NCSC), is a national agency responsible for Ghana’s cybersecurity development.

The center is also responsible for awareness creation and responds to cybersecurity incidents.

Established in 2018, the center has set aside October every year as the National Cybersecurity Awareness month.

As part of activities marking this year’s cybersecurity awareness month,  the center is touring some second cycle institutions to sensitize the youth to cybersecurity issue. 

In Tamale in the northern region,  the center interacted with students of the Ghana senior high School and northern business senior high.

The Computer and Emergency Response Team Lead,  Audrey Wereko emphasized that,  posting indecent photographs or videos on the internet does not only pose a threat to the development of the person,  but it is also a crime.

The Child Online Protection Officer for the center,  Nelson Darko advised the youth to call the center in case of cyber bullying.

He stated that,  persons whose videos have been circulated on social media,  including  facebook,  YouTube and Whatsaap to report to the center for help.

Mr. Darko,  used the occasion to advise the youth to desist from accepting friends requests from strangers and meeting up with persons they have only met online.
