school

By Peggy Ama Donkor

Eighty pupils of the Abua District Assembly Basic School in the Pru West district of the Bono East region who had their classes on the bare floor, now have classrooms to comfortably write. This follows the donation of forty dual desks worth GHC6,000.

The donation was by a private citizen, Madam Millicent Darko. The school also received ten white marker boards and more than one thousand note one exercise books from three other private persons, estimated at GHC40,000.

In all, the school received donations estimated at GHC10,000 following a GTV news item on the sorry state of the school some months ago.

Seven months ago, this was the situation at Abua D/A Basic school in the Bono East region – pupils sitting on the bare floor in class.

The presentation of the forty dual desks meant the eighty pupils will no longer sit on the floor in class for their lessons.

Jubilation from pupils and smiles from Teachers welcomed the truck loaded with the furniture, marker boards and exercise books.

Armed with his tools from Accra, one of the donors, Mr Lamtiig Apanga, a lawyer, went into action assembling the marker boards assisted by a local based carpenter and some of the teachers. Two classes, five and six held under trees also received their share of the goodies.

The District Chief Executive, Mr David Manu and District Director of Education, Mr Evans Mati joined teachers and donors to distribute the note one exercise books to the over five hundred pupils. Each pupil received two books, with over one hundred leftovers.

The Assistant Head Teacher, Miss Abiba Sualley and the District Chief Executive Mr David Manu, thanked GTV for telling their story to the world resulting in the donation. She believes this will improve teaching and learning.

Other donors include Mr Mark Sasu of GTV, Mr Kofi Oppong Asamoah of Class fm, and the District Chief Executive of Pru West who transported the items. Meanwhile, the school still needs more support to eliminate the two other classes under trees as well as more furniture.
