The Kejetia Market in Kumasi has been closed temporarily for assessment on the extent of damage caused by yesterday’s fire.

The first and second floors of the market were gutted by fire, destroying some shops.

The closure of the market will commence tomorrow and will last for three days. From Friday to Sunday, persons who have been directly affected by the fire would be allowed to access their shops for only three hours, and those who deal in perishable goods would be given preferential treatment to check the state of their items.

Shops have, however, been opened for today for all traders within the facility to assess the conditions of their shops.

The National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO says there is no record yet of injuries and casualties.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah asked the traders to comply with the directive to close all shops for a proper assessment of the situation.
