Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor Amin Alhassan has assured the public that the state broadcaster is determined to reclaim encroached lands belonging to it.

According to him, the issue of encroached GBC lands has become a subject matter at Board meetings and they have taken some actions to claim portions of the encroached lands.

“In some cases we have taken legal actions against them. But in some other cases, we have gone ahead to demolish their structures and they have taken us to court”, Prof. Amin Alhassan disclosed.

He made this statement in response to some questions on lands owned by the state broadcaster at a Public Accounts Committee hearing.

In a report submitted to the Public Accounts Committee, the Auditor General listed about 74 different parcels of land that have been encroached and recommended that GBC should consider fencing those lands.

The Director General was however quick to add that fencing of the is not feasible.

“The Board has put together an Adhoc Committee to deal with the land issues case by case. In areas where we can fence, they will recommend fencing but an outright policy of fencing all the lands is not looking feasible”, he added.
