Ghana records new strain of COVID-19

Ghana has recorded the New Strain of Coronavirus. According to President Akufo-Addo, the country’s scientists detected it on some arriving passengers.

In the last few weeks, a number of countries have recorded different variants of the virus, raising concerns about the effectiveness of newly developed vaccines to fight the disease.

Addressing the nation on his 22nd COVID-19 update President Akufo-Addo said work is ongoing to determine the extent of spread of the new variants among the people.

President Akufo-Addo said government may be forced to bring back strict measures that were applied at the beginning of the pandemic last year as the country is currently recording two hundred (200) cases daily.

He said active cases have now shot up to 1,924 as against about 900 during his 21st update. Also 13 of the 16 regions have recorded new cases with the youth forming the majority.

President Akufo-Addo announced that security personnel will be dispatched massively among the public to strictly enforce adherence to the safety measures, adding that offenders will be prosecuted.
