GHANASS embarks on tree planting project to mark 80th anniversary

As part of activities celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua, GHANASS in the Eastern Region, the Management of the school in collaboration with the Old Students Association, called GOSA Global with support from the Forestry Commission has embarked on a project called Greening GHANASS Project with the aim of planting trees in the school and its environs.

The Headmistress of GHANASS, who is also  the Queen mother of Kordiabe, Nana Naki Otutuabo noted that the planet is currently confronted with numerous challenges from climate change and deforestation to pollution and loss of biodiversity.

She mentioned that it is imperative as informed and conscientious individuals to take action and make impact by planting trees to protect the environment. 

Nana Naki Otutuabo, who is also an old student of GHANASS, revealed that the Greening GHANASS Project is a movement to call upon everyone to be active steward of the environment, nurturing and protecting it for the future generations.

The Head of the Economics Department and the Secretary of the Academic Board at GHANASS, Michael Frempong noted that the project is to ensure that Ghana’s quest to restore its lost forest cover is achieved.

The Deputy GOSA Global Secretary, Prince Ansah-Albrights speaking on behalf of GOSA Global President, Emmanuel Adu-Opoku Sarkodie lamented about how illegal mining is gradually destroying the forest cover of the country. 

He demonstrated his worry on why leaders of the country are sitting unconcern and  a certain few people as a result of their selfish interest are  destroying the forest reserves and water bodies in the country.

The 80th Anniversary Planning Committee Rep, Dr. Godfred Frempong also gave out the line-up of activities to mark the anniversary celebration with the climax on the 28th of October 2023.

The Headmistress, Nana Naki Otutuabo took the lead to plant a royal palm seedling, followed by the Deputy GOSA Global Secretary, Prince Ansah-Albrights with the Senior Girls Prefect, Christabel Annoah Ghanney and the Senior Boys Prefect Ephraim Yaw Ampofo following suit.

The other students used the opportunity to plant royal palm seedlings on the school compound and its environs. The 80th Anniversary will on the theme “80 Years of Trailblazing Holistic Senior High School Education, Contribution of Stakeholders.
