As part of efforts to re-introduce and re-engage and deepen cooperation with its stakeholders for mutual benefit, the National Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), have paid a working visit to the Offices of the European Union Delegation in Accra.

The GJA, President Albert Dwumfour, was accompanied by his National Organizing Secretary, Dominic Hlodzi, Treasurer, Audrey Dekalu and Public Affairs Officer, Rebecca Ekpe.

Mr. Dwumfour said the “GJA and the EU are key partner institutions, so far as development is concerned’’.

He used the occasion to outline the GJA’s vision for the new National Executives and said, “this team is on a mission to leave a legacy and impact society’’.

The meeting represented an occasion to set the tone for a later engagement with the EU Ambassador, Irchad Razaaly.

Meanwhile, the GJA President Albert Dwumfour highlighted some activities planned out for the rest of the year. Of particular mention was the 26th GJA Awards Ceremony scheduled for the 12th of November, 2022 at the Kempinski Gold coast Hotel in Accra to honour Journalists who excelled in their work for the year in review. While extending a hand of invitation to the EU, the GJA President called for participation and support.

Apart from reintroducing and re-engaging the GJA team was also brought up to speed with the work of the European Union in Ghana, and how the role of the media comes to play in this regard.

Ana Lixi, the Head of Governance and Security Section of the EU Delegation in Ghana, represented Ambassador Irchad Razaaly. She was joined by the Programs Manager, Joseph Boarebon Alan and Abdul-Kudus Hussein, Press and Information Officer. 

Madam Lixi shared the EU’s mission and vision and said one of its mandates is to ‘’corporate with the countries, support in its challenges with a strategic vision and supporting the media is along the same path’’.

‘’We provide support not only at the economic level, but also in the area of advocacy and we see the role of the media as critical to development’’.

‘’Journalists are key persons in the fight against corruption and Journalists must be supported’’, according to Madam Lixi.

She agreed that the EU’s support to the government is given a boost with the media as an ally’’.

“The media is our main ally; media are a key actor, media are fundamental to give echo to our support to the projects with the government and to ensure that together we achieve our purpose’’, the EU Head of Governance and Security affirmed.
