UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Baroness Kate Hoey as new Trade Envoy to Ghana to strengthen UK-Ghana trade and drive a mutually prosperous partnership. Baroness Kate is part of 10 appointed Trade Envoys signed by the UK Prime Minister on 23rd August 2021 across the world.

She was appointed for her experience supporting global businesses, all of which will help British and Ghanaian businesses to find new export and investment opportunities.

The Baroness will work closely with the UK in Ghana’s Trade Team as well as attending the twice annual UK-Ghana Business Council alongside senior representatives from the Government of Ghana and the UK’s Minister for Africa.

These were contained in a statement from the British High Commission in Accra. Baroness Kate Hoey has previously served as a Minister of State for the UK government working first in the UK’s Home Office and the then Department of National Heritage, now the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

The Baroness also served as a Regional MP for Vauxhall in London for 20 years. Several dignitaries, including the Director for the UK’s Department for International Trade in Ghana, Lindsey Gilbert-Crouch, have welcomed the appointment of the Baroness.

Madam Gilbert-Crouch is quoted to have said that as the globe looks ahead towards COP26 in Glasgow later this year, Baroness Hoey is expected to express interest in Ghana’s work to create a greener and more sustainable business environment based on her rich experiences.

The UK’s International Trade Secretary, Liz Truss also expressed delight that the UK Prime Minister had appointed 10 Trade Envoys who will boost opportunities for businesses in some of the world’s fastest growing markets including Ghana.
