The US Government is introducing a new rule to try to stop pregnant women travelling to the country to give birth for purposes of citizenship.

Officials in American embassies around the world, have been told to deny visas to women if they suspect the main reason for visiting is to have the child on US soil.

This is the latest measure by the Trump administration to restrict access to the U.S., both to people looking to immigrate and others going to the U.S. to give birth.

The new rule unveiled yesterday which takes effect today, is aimed at cracking down on what the Trump administration calls birth tourism.

A statement from the White House, said the rule change is necessary, to enhance public safety, national security, and the integrity of US immigration system.
